World Series of Boxing Rules Finalized

World Series of Boxing Rules Finalized

All World Series of Boxing (WSB) teams today received copies of the final competition rules. Developed by experts, these rules will assist franchises in their preparations for the start of the season and help to prepare the boxers for their first competitive bouts of the Regular Season, which starts on November 19th.

The rules include a ranking procedure for the teams as well as the individual boxers.

Teams will be attributed three points for a 5-0 or 4-1 score at each match and the losing team will score no points. For a 3-2 result the winning team will get three points and the losing team will get one point. In the event of a draw, both teams will be awarded two points.

The team ranking used to determine the semi-finalists will be decided by the highest number of points won during the regular season. In the event that teams have an equal number of points, the ranking will be decided by the greater number of matches won. If the teams are still tied then the greater number of bouts won and, ultimately, the superior number of bouts won among the teams in question will be taken into account.

The best runner-up across all conferences will be determined according to the superior number of ranking points, or in the event of a tie on points the greater number of matches. If the teams are still tied, then the greater number of bouts won will be taken into account.

During the regular season an individual ranking will be established for boxers in each weight category. This all-important ranking will be used to determine the top individual boxers who will go through to the Individual Championships and a chance to qualify directly for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The ranking will be decided by the highest number of wins during the regular season. If boxers are tied on wins, then the formal for determining the ranking is as follows (in order of priority):

1) Number of bouts competed in (the boxer with a greater percentage of victories is ranked higher)
2) If the boxers are from the same conference, the head to head results are taken into account
3) The greater number of bouts won in away matches during the Regular Season
4) The greater number of points per judge obtained in victories. Fifty points per judge are awarded for knock-outs
5) The lesser number of warnings during the Regular Season

The Individual Finals will be held during the last weekend of May in Macau over two consecutive evenings. The first evening will feature the first three weight categories and the second will feature the remaining two.
